Female Fan Club
A highlight of women in the fitness and body movement industry that deserve a High. Five!
Feminist fitness is so much more than just feeling empowered in a weight room, or knowing that you’re more than a “tight body”. It can be the honesty we have in our bodies, living and sharing similar experiences. It’s about leaving patricarchial stigma behind and giving you fellow female the proverbial head nod of “I see you. I see your truth”. I think a lot of our experiences as women are labelled as gross, weak and inappropriate to talk about because we are seen as secondary. There’s a reason our tampons are in the back aisle because period blood should never be seen and yet farting and burping jokes are at the root of male comedy.
There’s a big push with the millennial generation to use online platforms to share our stories and normalize our bodies. To freely address EVERYDAY occurrences we go through without living our lives in a proverbial buying tampons walk of shame. A dear friend of mine who lives this truth is Jessie Lipscomb and her blog “Mama Lips, Herself”.
Jessie’s blog is one to save on your desktop, and to subscribe to. She writes about her life as a new mother who is hella into healthy living and being honest about her own experiences. She is changing the mommy blog game up by contributing her own shade and creating a “Melanin Mommy” network. (She recently made these shirts, and is working with CDT on a design project!)
She just warms my heart and I’m seriously so proud to call her a friend. Here is a link to her “about me” post if you’d like to get to know her a bit more.
The post she wanted to share for CDT is about “Sex After Childbirth”. I literally stopped walking on a public sidewalk to read it when she released and have re-read it about 5 times. It’s so damn funny and HONEST. Here is my favorite quote.
“I thought I’d just be mentally fucked up after J came about & destroyed my lady-bits but it’s definitely more than that & I wasn’t prepared…”
